Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol The editor of one edition of ‘A Christmas Carol’ wrote â€Å"A story so admirably told, the details of place, of time, of person so dexterously made real for us† How does Dickens achieve this? How does he ‘A Christmas Carol’ a story which â€Å"No one could help but enjoy† In this essay I am going to be writing about the different techniques in which Dickens uses, and by using these bring people, place and time to life. Dickens cleaver use of techniques throughout this book really makes us feel as if we are actually there are selves. I think that the reason why dickens is so good at making this all seem so real to us is because when he was younger he grew up as a child in London himself, which I think would explain why this book has so much detail in it. A lot of what happens in this book most probably happened to Dickens as a boy as he used to be quite poor himself, an example of this is the cratchits Christmas dinner which I think was based on what Christmas used to be like for Dickens. Dickens motive for writing this book was so that he could make people aware of how awful it was to be poor, so he therefore wrote this in a story to try and get his point across. This is why Dickens is so good at using a range of different techniques which really create an image in are heads of what is really going on. I am mainly going to be focusing on the different techniques used in three certain passages from the book; these are going to be the description of Scrooge, the description of the shops in London and Fezziwigs ball. I have chosen these three passages as I think that they have been written in great detail and show us exactly how Dickens brings things to life and how well he does it. Even though I am focusing particularly on these passages Dickens use of techniques is constantly used throughout this book. His constant uses of adjectives throughout really create an image in are head of what something looks like or what is going on. He uses adjectives in a number of different ways but contently uses these same ways all through the book. Dickens will use listing such as â€Å"Great joints of meat, sucking pig, long wreaths of sausages, plum puddings.† He will also list three adjectives and then a noun for example â€Å"Cold, bleak, biting weather† and â€Å"Long, bare, melancholy room.† This really helps us to create an

Unit load storage and handling. Commonly found in: Warehousing for finished goods. Manufacturing facilities e. G. Deep-lane systems are mostly used in food industry. 2.Order picking. As order picking involves retrieving materials in less than full unit load quantities, monomial, man-an-board, and item retrieval systems are used for this applicat ion area. 3. Work-in-process storage systems. It's a new application recently developed of automated storage technology. The following ways are ways to manage unavoidable WIPE: a. Buffer storage in production. Used between two processes which production rates differ significantly. An in-process buffer is needed between these operations to temporarily store the output of the first process as the input for the second process. . Support of Just-in-time delivery. Just-in-time TIT) is a manufacturing strategy that follows the pull strategy in which parts required in production are received immediately prior they are needed in the plant. Used to identify the location and tutus of work-in-process in the facility. F. Support of factory wide automation. Part 2: Prepare a report about manual and automated conveyors. CONVEYOR SYSTEMS Conveyors are used when material must be moved in relatively large quantities between specific locations over a fixed path.Conveyors divided into two basic categories: 1 . Powered conveyors The power mechanism is contained in the fixed path, using chains, belts, rotating rolls, or other devices to force loads along the path. They are usually used in automated material transport systems in manufacturing plants, warehouses, and distribution centers. 2. Non-powered conveyors. Tat or by using gravity from one height to a lower height. Types of Conveyors 1. Roller and Skate Wheel Conveyors. Roller conveyor: The pathway consists of a series of rollers that are perpendicular to the direction of travel.The fixed frame contains rollers that lifts the pathway above floor level from several inches to several feet. Flat pallets carrying unit loads are moved forward as the roller rotate. Applications: manufacturing, assembly, and packaging. Skate-wheel conveyors are similar to roller conveyors but skate wheels rotating on shaft connected to a frame to roll pallets along the path way instead of rollers. Applications of skate wheel conveyors are similar to those of roller conveyors, except that the loads must generally be lighter. 2.Belt Conveyors. Belt conveyors consist of a continuous loop: Half its length is used for delivering materials, and the other half is the return run. Belt conveyors are typically available in two types; Flat belts for pallets, individual parts, or even certain types of bulk materials; Thorough belts for b ulk materials. Conveyors Driven by Chains and Cables. Uses chains that forms endless loop on which loads are carried directly. The loop forms a straight line with a pulley at each end. This is usually in an over-and-under configuration.These conveyors are categorized as the following: 1. Chain: a. Used to transport heavy unit loads. B. Parallel chain configuration used to transport pallets. 2. Slat conveyor: a) Uses discretely spaced slats connected to a chain b) Unit being transported retains its position c) Orientation and placement of the load is controlled d) Used for heavy loads or loads that might damage a belt e) Bottling and canning plants use flat chain or slat conveyors because of wet conditions, temperature, and cleanliness requirements f) Tilt slat conveyor used for serration 3.In floor towline conveyors: . Uses towline to provide power to wheeled carriers such as trucks, dollies, or carts that move along the floor b. Used for fixed-path travel of carriers (each of which has variable path capabilities when disengaged from the towline) c. Towline can be located either overhead, flush with the floor, or in the floor a. Uses a series of trolleys supported from or within an overhead track b. Trolleys are equally spaced in a closed loop path and are suspended from a chain c.Carriers are used to carry multiple units of product d. Does not provide for accumulation e. Commonly used in processing, assembly, packaging, and storage operations 5. A power-and-free overhead trolley conveyor: a. Similar to trolley conveyor due to use of discretely spaced carriers transported by an overhead chain; however, the power-and-free conveyor uses two tracks: one powered and the other non-powered. B. Carriers can be disengaged from the power chain and accumulated or switched onto spurs c.Termed an Inverted Power-and- Free Conveyor when tracks are located on the floor 6. Cart-on-track conveyors: a. Used to transport carts along a track b. Carts are transported by a rotating tube c. Connected to each cart is a drive wheel that rests on the tube and that is used to array the speed of the cart (by varying the angle of contact between the drive wheel and the tube) d. Carts are independently controlled e. Accumulation can be achieved by maintaining the drive wheel parallel to the tube 7.Screw conveyors: a. Consists of a tube or U-shaped stationary trough through which a shaft-mounted helix revolves to push loose material forward in a horizontal or inclined direction b. Affirmative Action: The Nation’s continuing battle for racial equality

Affirmative action is a policy of the State which has for its goal the elimination of historically rooted discrimination against men and women of colour. This is an active response of the State to the overwhelming concern of racial discrimination happening in the country and around the Globe. The existence of different nationality, race and ethnicity is a fact that has been long recognized. The looming problem in our society is determined by the equality of opportunities and the degree of acceptance. By acceptance it means the openness of firms, companies, and other institutions to hire men and women of colour. One need not look too far beyond to see how self-interest has been the ruling factor that has caused all development and transformation in the world. The formation of human rights seem to be the perfect illustration to this as it has been primarily geared towards the conscious regard to the political rights of the people. Through time, the ancient civilizations sought for more responsive policies then for more progressive ones as these clamours push for the commencement of social and cultural rights as well as economic rights respectively. This relative expansion in the coverage of human rights is not limited to narrow scope of the international sphere. This improvement transcends all the aspects of a political man. That is, in consideration of the triumvirate of goods or the different active determinants in the life of an individual â€Å"the political events, economic situation as well as the societal condition all lend a hand in the establishment of a singular prototype that would shape an individual. As a result, the manner and level by which an individual’s need would be catered to is the final cause of human advancement. This means that all growth and evolution depends on the intensity of human involvement to achieve what he wants. As a corrective measure, Affirmative action’s primary purpose is to cure defects in the government and other sectors of society. These defects are mainly caused by social strife, injustices, violation and discrimination in areas that include business, education and the military. This has been seen by the state as a necessary meant to tip the scale in favor of those who have been disadvantaged over the years. Protection of every citizen is the primary goal and objective of its citizens. This entails not only the protection from physical harm but also the assurance that the citizen is not disadvantaged in terms of work opportunities. Affirmative action is a means of the State to promote the welfare of the people. However, the real question is â€Å"can racial equality be achieved in business, education and the military without the use of policies that promote Affirmative Action?† On the other hand, it would appear that the primary objective of every individual is of getting those that he needs which would ultimately result in the progress of the entire society. This situation typifies the idea of self-interest as the governing factor that qualifies international growth and transformation. There is nothing inherently wrong with this; however, in this day and age, much of the development in the field of Politics should be and has been generally focused on policy-making and procedural re-awakening aimed in attempting to legislate policies that would make a more peaceful international community shared by men and women. Racial equality is an old issue but it remains to be of great national concern given the fact that existence of affirmative action is a way to remind us of the importance of recognizing and respecting individual rights of persons, regardless of race.   

Boundary Violations and Non pliance and Confidentiality

The boundary violation that we discussed in our group was concerning the mental health patients and the reactions of doctors. Boundary violations are disruptions of the expected and accepted social, physical, and psychological boundaries that separate physicians from patient (Falender and Shafranske, 2004). There is a therapeutic nexus between a doctor and a patient is emanating from the purpose of the therapy and whenever there is deviation from the basic goal of treatment, it is referred as boundary violation. Another boundary violation that we discussed involved the exploitation of the patient. Have you witnessed mental health nurses engaging in any of these? Occasionally mental nurses don’t respect the dignity of the patients, the trust created, often called the notion of trust or good faith is not asserted by the nurses (McAuliffe, 2005). The nurses go forth revealing the status of the sick persons to third parties without their consents. Difference between a boundary crossing and boundary violation? Explain. A boundary crossing is an aberration from classical therapeutic action that is non-exploitative, and possibly in-line with the therapy itself. Alternatively, the infringement of the boundary is destructive or hypothetically harmful, to the patient. It amounts to mistreatment of the patient. Equally, boundary infringement can originate from the patient or the therapist (Baca, 2011) Do you see any connection between this issue and the issue of Trauma Informed Care? There is a connection between boundary violations and trauma informed care. Trauma informed care approach is aimed at engaging persons who have previous records of trauma and make them recognize presence of trauma signs and appreciate the role the role played in their lives. The two are connected in the sense that they both deal with social, physical and mental aspects.
